Building Wealth 101

This half-day seminar is based on Building Wealth: A Beginner’s Guide to Securing Your Financial Future, a workbook created by the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. It is supplemented by some basic information on estate planning, as well as information on how using your Supplemental Retirement Plans with MSRP makes it easy to save for retirement. The seminar provides basic information and a systematic approach to building personal wealth.  It is based on time honored principles: budget to save; save and invest; control debt; and protect the wealth you accumulate.   By following these principles you can meet your financial goals such as paying off debt, saving for retirement, putting away money for a rainy day, buying a home, and sending your child to college.  Click here for the current flyer with the schedule and registration information.

First Steps to Retirement Planning
This half-day seminar will cover important topics to help early to mid-career State employees make sound financial decisions in planning for their retirement.   The seminar will help you understand the three main components of your retirement:  your pension, Social Security, and your 401(k)/457(b)/403(b).   We will focus on why you need to start planning and saving NOW for your future!  Click here for the current flyer with the schedule and registration information.

New Employee Orientation
The seminar covers the three supplemental retirement plans. It highlights the choices upon retirement, three provisions: hardship, loan and catch-up, and distribution options. The length of the seminar is approximately one hour.   It's generally offered as part of the State Retirement Agency's full-day pre-retirement seminar, but also is offered as a stand-alone session.

One-on-One Counseling: Let's talk about YOU and YOUR account. MSRP field representatives are available to meet for One-On-One Counseling with all employees enrolled in the plan or those considering enrollment. The purpose of the sessions is to provide information on the plans. Counselors will not provide investment advice or recommendations. The individual counseling sessions will cover how asset allocation and diversification are typically used to reduce risk. We will try to answer any questions you have about the plans and we will also provide you with enrollment materials. To make a 30-minute appointment, please contact Janet Wilt at MSRP at 410-767-8742.

New Employee Orientation: It's never too early to start saving for your retirement! This seminar is excellent for new state employees or those not currently participating. It covers the characteristics of the 457 Deferred Compensation Plan, the 403(b) Tax Deferred Annuity Plan, the 401(k) Savings & Investment Plan, and the 401(a) Match Plan. It explains enrollment procedures, eligibility requirements, investment options, fee structure and distribution requirements. The length of the seminar can be tailored to the needs of the employer, and requires as little as ten minutes.

Information Booth: Got a quick question about your plan? This is a great opportunity for employees to ask individual questions concerning their plans. A field representative sets up a table in the agency and provides information on the plans. This is a helpful option when a specific time commitment may be challenging. (Employees looking for a private, confidential discussion should schedule a One-on-One appointment)
